The hybrid drive combines a battery store with a compact combustion unit (diesel or LPG). Both energy sources feed the same drivetrain – the operator selects the mode according to the application:

• Electric mode for indoor use: All drive and lift functions run purely on battery power – zero emissions, low noise, and non-marking tyres. This makes the machine suitable for interior fit-out, in-service hall installation, food and cleanroom environments, and sites with emissions restrictions.

• Hybrid mode for outdoor use: The combustion unit recharges the battery during operation and delivers continuous power for rough terrain, gradients and long shifts. No mains power connection is needed on site.

Onboard recharging eliminates the typical weak point of pure battery platforms – limited shift range without charging infrastructure. At the same time, emission-free operation is retained wherever it is required.

The economic core of a hybrid platform lies in its dual coverage: one machine replaces the usual combination of an electric and a diesel platform. This reduces cost and effort in several ways.

• No dual sourcing: One rental agreement, one point of contact, one delivery instead of two machines for the same construction phase.

• One transport instead of two: Especially in mixed-use project phases – shell construction followed by interior fit-out, or industrial halls from the construction phase through to commissioning – the hybrid platform saves an entire logistics cycle.

The three-dimensionally articulating boom and rotating work platform make it possible to reach around obstacles at height and position the work point precisely – even in confined spaces and narrow access routes.

The advantage of the articulated geometry over a pure telescopic boom lies in the additional riser joint on the boom. It allows the basket to be guided over edges, railings or roof overhangs without repositioning the machine.

Two key figures need to be distinguished when selecting a machine:

Working height is the reach of a person standing in the basket – platform height plus around 2 m. This is the figure shown in the rental quote.

Outreach (up-and-over reach) describes how far the basket can be extended sideways beyond an obstacle. On the HR 28 Hybrid this is up to around 19 m – the figure that determines suitability for complex façades and working behind projections.

The model's load chart is always decisive: it defines which basket load is permitted at which boom position. A brief consultation based on the site geometry clarifies within minutes whether working height and outreach match the task.

The choice of drive depends on the application, ground conditions and the required reach height. As a guide:

In borderline cases – for example, predominantly indoor use with occasional outdoor work – a brief discussion with the rental team is the fastest way to find the right machine.

Anyone operating a mobile elevating work platform in Switzerland needs an operator authorization. The legal basis is the Ordinance on the Prevention of Accidents and Occupational Diseases (VUV) and Ordinance 3 to the Employment Act (ArGV 3); the specific requirements for training and operation are set out in the EKAS guidelines and the Suva provisions. Authorization by the employer is issued in writing.

The internationally recognized proof of competence is the PAL-Card issued by IPAF (International Powered Access Federation); in Switzerland, training is provided through the VSAA association (verbandvsaa.ch).
