Heavy-duty telehandlers are used whenever heavy machinery and components need to be moved safely and positioned with precision. All units leave our depot in Passau after a load moment limiter (LMI) load test. Inspection certificates, handover protocols and technical data sheets on ground pressure are available on request.

Not every heavy-duty operation takes place on a level hall floor. In bridge construction, mining, or when handling wind power components, the ground itself is often the biggest challenge for stability. The Manitou MHT series at Luibl Rental features permanent four-wheel drive, three steering modes and high ground clearance, moving loads of up to 33 tonnes even on unpaved terrain. The hydrostatic power transmission ensures smooth, jerk-free starts under full load – an important factor when manoeuvring heavy loads to centimetre precision on inclines.

The Merlo P models cover the lower load capacity range of the heavy-duty fleet (7,200–12,000 kg) and, thanks to their more compact dimensions, are well suited to applications with limited space, such as factory halls or machine relocations.

Applications for heavy-duty telehandlers

In a port logistics project, 20-tonne steel sections needed to be moved. Instead of setting up a 300-tonne mobile crane, we opted for the coordinated use of two heavy-duty telehandlers in a tandem lift. Radio remote control allowed a single banksman to keep both machines in view. The result: cost savings compared with using a crane, and both telehandlers remained available for further tasks on site after the load was set down.

With loads beyond 10,000 kg, both components and ground come under significant stress. On request, we provide the technical data sheet on ground pressure and review support loads together with you in advance. Operator obligations under ArGV 3:

• Operators must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid telehandler operator's licence in accordance with VUV Art. 8, and be formally authorised in writing by the employer
• Check the load chart before every lift – mandatory for heavy loads
• Risk assessment including ground condition check before commissioning (load-bearing ground: asphalt, concrete or well-compacted gravel; on soft ground, consider a ground-bearing mat solution)
• On public roads: clarify road traffic approval requirements in advance
