Why Rent an Electric Forklift Instead of Diesel?
Electric forklifts aren't just the "clean" alternative – in many use cases they are also the more economical choice. Three core advantages are measurable:
-
Emission-free operation: No combustion exhaust, allowing unrestricted use in enclosed halls, cold stores and areas with food or pharmaceutical production. ArGV 3 requires the avoidance of harmful exhaust fumes in enclosed spaces – electric forklifts meet this requirement without any extra effort.
-
Lower operating costs per operating hour: At current energy prices, electricity clearly beats diesel. On top of that, maintenance costs are lower since there are no oil changes, drive belts or exhaust after-treatment required.
-
Noise reduction: An electric motor operates at a significantly lower sound pressure level than a diesel drive when used indoors. This reduces noise exposure for your staff and is often the deciding factor for night-shift operations or work near residential areas.
Typical application areas for electric forklifts: food industry, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, automotive supply logistics, trade fairs and exhibition halls, cold storage, production facilities with enclosed ventilation.
Our Rental Fleet – The Right Solution for Every Application
Luibl operates a segmented electric forklift fleet that covers every requirement profile – from the agile three-wheel compact unit to the 10-tonne heavyweight.
3-Wheel Electric Forklifts – Maximum Manoeuvrability in Tight Spaces
The three-wheel design noticeably reduces the turning radius and is the first choice for narrow aisles, tight racking blocks and dense warehouse layouts. Typical models in the Luibl rental fleet:
-
Hyundai 15BT-9 – 1,500 kg load capacity, 5.50 m lift height
-
EP CPD18TV8 – 1,800 kg load capacity, choice of 4.80 m or 6.00 m lift height
-
Hyundai 18BT-9 – 1,800 kg load capacity, 5.50 m lift height
-
Maximal Forklift FB20S-MJZ – 2,000 kg load capacity, 4.50 m lift height
Application tip: Three-wheelers show their strength in aisles under 3.20 m working width. For wider aisles and heavier loads, a four-wheel model is the better choice.
4-Wheel Electric Forklifts – Stability and Power for Heavy Loads
Four-wheel forklifts provide greater stability at lift loads from around 2 tonnes and are more resilient for light yard duty on firm ground. Selected models:
-
EP EFL181 – 1,800 kg, 4.80 m lift height (compact entry model)
-
EP CPD20L1 / CPD20L1-Li – 2,000 kg, 4.70–6.00 m (Li-ion variant available)
-
EP EFL302 Triplex Mast – 3,000 kg, 4.80 m (triplex mast for high free lift)
-
Hyundai 30BH-9 – 3,000 kg, 6.00 m
-
EP EFL352 – 3,500 kg, choice of 4.80 m or 6.00 m
-
Hyundai 50B-9 – 5,000 kg, 5.90 m
-
EP CPD50F8 / CPD50F8 Li – 5,000 kg, 5.00–6.00 m (lithium-ion)
-
Kalmar ECF 80-9 – 8,000 kg, 3.45 m (industrial heavy-duty)
-
EP EFL 1002 – 10,000 kg, 5.00 m (top segment of electric heavy-duty)
Application tip: The 8- and 10-tonne models are preferred for container handling, steel-construction supply and plant logistics – anywhere diesel machines are ruled out due to indoor operation.
Technical Highlights of Our Rental Equipment
Lithium-Ion or Lead-Acid – Which Battery Technology Fits?
The choice of battery technology has a major impact on productivity in multi-shift operation.
-
Lead-acid batteries are the proven, cost-effective option for single- and two-shift operation. Charging takes place overnight after the shift. Advantage: lower rental cost, sufficient for 6–8 hours of continuous operation. Disadvantage: longer charging times, interim charging not recommended, an acid room must be set up.
-
Lithium-ion batteries (e.g. in the EP CPD20L1-Li or CPD50F8 Li) enable opportunity charging: a short charge during the lunch break is often enough for another shift. Advantage: 24/7 operation possible, no separate battery room, no off-gassing. Disadvantage: higher rental price, but nearly always more economical in 3-shift operation.
For 3-shift operation we generally recommend Li-ion or, alternatively, a second lead-acid battery with a changing frame. Our team will be happy to advise you on the right configuration for your shift model.
Mast Types – Duplex, Triplex and Free Lift
The mast determines the height and gate dimensions the forklift can be used under.
-
Duplex mast: Two-stage, standard design. Suitable for lift heights up to approx. 3.50 m without free-lift requirements.
-
Triplex mast: Three-stage with initial free lift. Ideal for container unloading or truck loading through low gate heights. The forks can be raised without the mast extending.
-
Initial free lift: Crucial when working under a hall gate or ceiling with limited height. Models such as the EP EFL302 with triplex mast offer clear advantages here.
Residual Load Capacity – The Often Overlooked Factor
The rated load capacity only applies at the standard load centre (usually 500 mm) and low lift height. At maximum lift height, residual load capacity drops by 20–40% depending on the model. Important: Always plan your loads against the load capacity chart of the specific machine – not against the advertised rated load. Our specialists will send you the relevant data sheet on request.
Tyres and Floor Protection
Our electric forklifts are fitted as standard with non-marking solid rubber tyres. They leave no black scuff marks – mandatory in food-processing facilities, clean rooms and representative exhibition areas. For hybrid use switching between hall and paved yard, this tyre type is standard at Luibl.
Case Study – Seasonal Peaks in Food Logistics
For a major project in the food industry, we secured multi-shift operation over several weeks during the Christmas season. The challenge: 24/7 operation in a cold store where diesel and LPG forklifts were ruled out by design. The solution: lithium-ion electric forklifts with opportunity charging plus spare batteries kept on standby. Result: no unplanned downtime, full performance across all shifts. Technical support was provided through our service technician team with a guaranteed response time.
Safety, VUV and Insurance
All Luibl rental forklifts are inspected in accordance with ArGV 3 and VUV before every rental and delivered with a valid VUV inspection sticker. For long-term rentals, we handle the recurring inspections for the duration of the rental period.
Operator qualification: Under VUV, forklift operators require written authorisation, a medical fitness examination and practical instruction – the classic "forklift licence". We offer training Switzerland-wide and also provide in-house training: details on our training page.
Insurance: Optionally, we offer a liability reduction for your rental machines. Terms are included in the quote.
