More than 200 rental locations, availability at short notice and the integrated periodic inspection under the VUV with the FEM 4.004 scope make enquiring straightforward. Choose the type that fits your site — we deliver directly with our own low-loader fleet from Passau.
Which Manitou telehandler types are available?
Manitou differentiates its telehandler portfolio into four clearly separated types. Which variant is the right one is decided by three factors: capacity, required reach and working environment.
-
Fixed telehandlers (MT series) — The boom is rigidly connected to the chassis and loads are handled to the front. High stability even without outriggers, linear power delivery when travelling forward under load. MT models cover lifting heights from 4 to 18 metres and capacities between 2 and 4 tonnes. The classic choice for construction, logistics and building applications with changing pick-up points. → Manitou fixed telehandlers
-
Rotating Roto telehandlers (MRT series) — The upper structure rotates continuously through 360 degrees on the undercarriage. Loads are positioned precisely without having to move the chassis. That saves time, protects the ground and reduces travel movements in the danger zone. MRT Vision Plus with RFID attachment recognition, lifting heights up to 35 metres, capacities up to 7 tonnes; built and verified to SN EN 1459-3. → Manitou Roto telehandlers
-
Heavy-duty telehandlers (MHT series) — Mining and Heavy Telehandler, designed for loads from 10 tonnes upwards. Reinforced lifting structures, hydrostatic four-wheel drive, three steering modes, the ability to travel under full load. Models such as the MHT 10120 (12 t), MHT 10200 (20 t) and MHT 11250 (25 t) are the choice for steel construction, port handling, mining and bridge building. → View the Manitou MHT 11250
-
Electric telehandlers — Lithium-ion battery, locally emission-free, low noise. Models such as the MT 625e bring the performance of the diesel variant into halls, food and pharmaceutical environments, hospitals and inner-city sites with noise and emission restrictions. → Electric telehandlers
Manitou telescopic wheel loaders (MLA range) and agricultural MLT models complement the portfolio in farm technology — available through Luibl on request.

What are Manitou telehandlers used for?
Four industry fields dominate rental demand. The right model choice depends on capacity, lifting height and terrain requirements — the assignments below are the most frequent constellations in practice.
-
Building construction and shell construction — Supplying floors with bricks, mortar silos, steel beams and precast elements. Standard machines: MT 1440 (14 m) and MT 1840 (18 m) for buildings up to six storeys, MRT 2150 (21 m) for high-rise projects with rotating load positioning.
-
Industrial assembly — Plant engineering, facade assembly, steel hall construction, power plant projects. The MRT series with a personnel work platform becomes a heavy-duty aerial work platform — operator qualification for rotating telehandlers and for work platform use is mandatory here under the VUV and the SUVA requirements. RFID attachment recognition adjusts the load chart automatically when tools are changed.
-
Mining, steel construction and heavy industry — Moving coils, steel plates and machine assemblies beyond the 10-tonne mark. The MHT series leads the heavy-duty telehandler segment. The MHT 10200 (20 t) and MHT 11250 (25 t) replace space-consuming heavy-duty cranes with outriggers in many cases.
-
Agriculture and recycling — Agricultural MLT models (with a Stage V engine and greater reach than the standard MT) for farm operations, silage, manure and straw logistics. Available through Luibl on request — talk to our scheduling team directly.
Attachments for Manitou telehandlers
The real strength of a Manitou telehandler lies in the combination with the right attachment. The quick-change system (E-Reco) recognises the coupled tool automatically and loads the matching load chart — a safety gain above all on MRT models with frequent tool changes during operation.
-
Pallet forks and load forks — Classic pallet transport in building construction and logistics. Optionally with a side shifter and a fork positioner.
-
Load hooks and winches — Turn the telehandler into a mobile crane. The PT lattice jib winch is ideal for lifting loads over obstructing edges or roof overhangs.
-
Personnel work platforms — Up to 1,000 kg basket load, usable as a heavy-duty aerial work platform. Prerequisites: fall protection PPE, platform instruction and the operator qualification for rotating telehandlers on MRT machines.
-
Buckets — Bulk material handling for gardening and landscaping, earthworks and waste disposal yards.
-
Vacuum lifters — Combined with MRT models the first choice for modern glass and facade construction.
-
Cylinder and pipe clamps, tyre grabs, positioners — Special attachments for industrial assembly, port handling and tyre service.
Which qualification do you need for a Manitou telehandler?
Operating telehandlers is subject to clearly defined requirements from the VUV (Ordinance on the Prevention of Accidents and Occupational Diseases), the Swiss Machinery Ordinance and the EU Machinery Directive. Knowing the requirements properly avoids penalties, loss of insurance cover and — above all — accidents.
-
Operator qualification under the EKAS guidelines · For fixed telehandlers (MT series) the forklift driver's permit under EKAS guideline 6518 is the basis. For rotating MRT models working in crane mode, crane operator training under the Swiss Crane Ordinance is added — that training is taken on rotating machines and is not covered by the forklift qualification. For work platform use, additional training in line with the SUVA requirements for aerial work platforms is needed.
-
Fall protection PPE in the platform · When working with a personnel work platform, personal protective equipment against falls from a height is mandatory. It absorbs the whiplash effect of an unexpected platform swing — without fall protection PPE a sudden boom movement can throw an operator out of the platform.
-
Periodic inspection under the VUV · All Manitou rental machines at Luibl are inspected annually by a competent person, with the FEM 4.004 scope (hydraulics, safety systems, stability, load moment limiter). The inspection label is valid on delivery and Luibl covers the follow-up inspection on long-term rentals at no extra charge.
-
Stage V engines · Current MT, MRT and MHT models are fitted with Stage V diesel engines in accordance with EU Regulation 2016/1628 — recognised in Switzerland through the Ordinance on Air Pollution Control and a prerequisite for work in emission-monitored industrial zones and municipal low-emission zones.
-
Machine-specific instruction · Beyond the basic qualification, every operator must be instructed on the specific rental machine in line with VUV art. 6 — load chart, JSM joystick layout, emergency lowering, outrigger operation. Luibl offers this instruction with every machine delivery.
Training courses under the EKAS and SUVA requirements can be combined directly with the rental machine — on your site if required. → To the training programme
For cross-border assignments in Germany or Austria the Swiss qualifications are recognised in most cases; supplementary instruction on the specific machine remains recommended.
What does a Manitou telehandler cost in the rental fleet?
The daily rate depends on the type, lifting height, capacity and rental period. Three cost factors are central:
-
Type and model class — Compact fixed MT models (MT 625, MT 930) have the lowest daily rate. Standard building construction models (MT 1440, MT 1840) sit in the middle range. Roto telehandlers (MRT 2150 to MRT 3570) are considerably more expensive because of their greater complexity and lifting height. Heavy-duty MHT models form the upper price segment, often with an individual project price.
-
Rental period — Daily rental (1 to 3 days) has the highest daily rate. Weekly rental reduces it noticeably. Long-term rental from three months includes the periodic VUV inspection, servicing and in part a refuelling service in the price and brings the daily rate down to industrial level.
-
Delivery and attachments — Low-loader transport from Passau or from the nearest of the more than 200 Luibl locations. Attachments (load hook, personnel platform, winch, vacuum lifter) are calculated separately as a flat rate.
