Rent a Merlo Telehandler – Precision and Power for Your Project
Merlo launched the modern telehandler in 1987 as the first production machine of its kind. That head start is still felt in every current machine: in the Panoramic cabin, in the hydrostatic drive, and in the patented boom side-shift. Luibl provides Merlo rental equipment VUV-inspected and with personal instruction on handover – rigid models, Roto machines, and heavy-duty classes, deliverable across Europe.
Why Merlo? The Advantages of the Italian Market Leader
Merlo telehandlers differ fundamentally from competitor machines in three respects:
Panoramic cabin with side-mounted engine: The engine is positioned to the side, not underneath the cabin. This completely eliminates the engine hump from the operator's field of view. The 360° all-round visibility from the cabin enables precise work with attachments even without a banksman – a direct safety benefit on confined job sites.
Patented boom side-shift: On certain Merlo models, the boom can be shifted sideways without having to move the machine itself. This means loads can be set down offset to the side – precisely, without repositioning effort, without losing time. On a facade project in Munich, a Merlo Roto's combination of continuous slew and lateral boom shift enabled pinpoint placement of glass elements without ever having to reposition the machine.
Inch pedal and hydrostatic drive: The inch pedal decouples the travel and working hydraulics – the operator can position the machine to the millimeter while the boom remains under full pressure. The hydrostatic drive translates every pedal movement into travel motion without steps. Result: no load swinging, no loss of control when moving into tight assembly positions.
Self-levelling: Merlo machines actively compensate for uneven terrain and keep the machine automatically level. This extends the range of use to ungraded job sites, green areas, and sloped terrain without any extra effort when setting up.

Rigid Merlo Telehandlers – The Compact Powerhouses
Rigid models from the TF and P series are the standard solution for site logistics, indoor assembly, and agricultural operations. Compact dimensions, all-wheel steering with up to four steering modes, and low ground pressure make them equally suited to paved and unpaved surfaces.
Typical applications:
-
Pallet transport in production halls with narrow passageways
-
Material supply on job sites during shell construction
-
Hay and silage work on agricultural operations
-
Feeding conveyor systems in earthworks
Technical range of the rigid series:
-
Load capacity: 2.5 t to 7 t
-
Lift height: up to 18 m
-
Drive: diesel, optional continuously variable transmission
The all-wheel steering switches between two-wheel steering, crab steering, and four-wheel (circular) steering – for maximum maneuverability even in the tightest spaces.
Merlo Roto – Maximum Flexibility Through 360° Rotation
Roto models in the Merlo range combine a telehandler, crane, and aerial platform in a single machine. The continuous slew rotates the upper carriage a full 360° with no stop, while the machine itself remains stationary. This makes it possible to work areas on both sides of the machine and behind it – without repositioning, without waiting.
Concrete advantages over the rigid model:
-
In steel construction: beams are taken from the transport rack, rotated, and lifted to assembly height on the opposite side – a single machine position for the entire operation.
-
In building construction: precast concrete elements, facade panels, and roof tiles are lifted independent of position, without the truck unloading area and the assembly area needing to line up.
Technical specifications of the Roto rental class:
-
Load capacity: 4 t to 10 t
-
Lift height: up to 30 m
-
360° continuous slew with load moment indicator (LMI)
-
Outrigger configuration: four independent outriggers for level load handling even on slopes
The load moment indicator continuously monitors the relationship between reach, lift height, and load capacity. If the combination moves outside the permitted range of the load chart, the system actively stops – no overload situation, full machine safety without operator intervention.
Attachments for Roto models at Luibl: work platform basket (approved for lifting personnel), winch, load hook, forks, earth bucket. The attachment is combined directly with the machine in the rental quote.
Heavy-Duty Telehandlers – When Every Kilo Counts
For load capacities beyond the standard class, Luibl provides Merlo models from the P 72 class. The Merlo P 72.10 carries 7,200 kg to a lift height of 10 m – designed for use in precast construction, steel beam assembly, or heavy machinery manufacturing.
Applications of the heavy-duty class:
-
Assembly of precast concrete elements in industrial and bridge construction
-
Transport and positioning of machine components in factory halls
-
Material supply on large job sites with high individual load weights
The hydrostatic drive is fully retained even in the heavy-duty class – precision when moving into tight positions is guaranteed regardless of load class.
What Does It Cost to Rent a Merlo Telehandler?
The rental price is made up of four components:
-
Machine rental rate: Depends on the model (rigid, Roto, heavy-duty), working height, and load class.
-
Rental duration: Daily, weekly, and monthly rates. For long-term rentals of several weeks or more, the recurring inspection per VUV and maintenance are already included in the rental agreement – no separate organizational effort required.
-
Transport costs: Calculated based on delivery location and machine size. Luibl uses its own fleet of low-loaders – no third-party provider, no scheduling uncertainty.
-
Attachment: A work platform basket, winch, or bucket can be combined with the machine on request and is calculated separately.
Fixed list prices are not published, as project size, delivery location, and rental duration determine the calculation individually. Combined offers for large job sites with multiple machines are available on request.
What License Is Required for a Merlo Telehandler?
The following applies to operating a Merlo telehandler on public roads:
-
Category L / T: For agricultural and forestry tractors – relevant for agricultural use on farm premises and field paths.
-
Category B / C: For road transport between job sites, depending on total weight and configuration.
Regardless of the driving license, VUV Art. 8 requires the operator's employer to provide documented instruction and ensure a valid operator's certificate for industrial trucks and telehandlers is in place. Luibl provides personal instruction by qualified staff at every machine handover – documented, compliant with standards.
For Roto models with a work platform basket, the VUV (regulation on work equipment for lifting persons) additionally applies. Equipment-specific training is organized by Luibl on request.
Attachments for Maximum Versatility
Merlo rental equipment at Luibl can be combined with the following accessories:
-
Forks: Standard for pallet and material transport
-
Earth bucket: For earthmoving, bulk materials, and grading work
-
Load hook: As a crane substitute for individual loads
-
Winch: For lifting work without a direct load attachment point
-
Work platform basket: Approved for lifting personnel, available for Roto models from 20 m lift height
All attachments are matched to the respective Merlo model class. The load moment indicator automatically adjusts the permitted load chart to the attachment in use – on Roto models with RFID recognition, this happens without manual input.
